My Quick Thoughts on Modern Family "Manny Get Your Gun"

Ugh. Where to begin? This was not a good episode of Modern Family. That is difficult for me to say because unlike some people, I have actually really enjoyed this season so far. The Halloween episode was probably my favorite episode of the season. However this episode just had to much stuff that didn’t work.

I suspected we might be in for a clunker after the cold open. Modern Family does the cold open better than any other show on TV(a title that used to belong to The Office) The cold open this week though did not even make me crack a smile. The problem is that occasionally Modern Family turns to some really convoluted plots. Now usually this only effects one of the 3 story lines going on so its not so bad. This week I felt like all three stories were really out there and really forced. The Phil/Claire story is usually the most out there plot but Phil’s hilarity saves it in most cases. This week, not only was Phil rarely funny, they split the two of them up and it just felt like they were giving double the amount of time to a weak story. The Jay/Gloria/Manny storyline was by far the strongest but even that was something I felt like we have seen enough of. Gloria and Jay being stubborn in an argument while Manny acts much older then he should. Am I the only one who found it really awkward when Gloria shot a BB gun in the general direction of her son? I know it’s a sitcom but geez! Also, am I the only one who found it really hot when Gloria shot a BB gun? Moving on, we get to the most ridiculous story. First of all I feel like they were a little late on the whole “flash mob thing”. Yes the actual dancing mob made me chuckle, but it was a really long way to go for a 3 second laugh. I will admit though that I did crack up when Cam and Mitchell were on opposite escalators with their respective old people they were trying to help.

With no episode last week, I had high hopes this week and I was disappointed. Ill give it a 4 out of 10
