My Thoughts on Community 11/11

Now this was the kind of episode of Community I have been waiting for. Sure I’ve liked the last few episodes that were all based on gimmicks or parody, but Community is at its best when the focus is on all the characters in the study group interacting with each other. The central premise of the episode revolved around Annie’s been being stolen for the 9th time. Because she is tired of getting her pen stolen she forces Jeff to lock everyone in the room until someone comes forward. By locking everyone in the study hall room, it allowed the actors to really play off each other. Its evident in the first scene, where everybody gets a turn to show what makes them all who they are. Jeff gets to become the leader. Britta gets to be all hippie and anti establishment/ Annie gets to be crazy to the point where its really hot (yeah ok so I have a huge crush on Allison Brie, so sue me). Pierce gets to show his stuck in the time thinking by making racist remarks. Abed gets to be all “meta” and reference everything to television. Make no mistake, the writers of Community know what makes there television show successful and it was definitely on display here.

When we return, Jeff is checking everyone’s bag. The pen is not found but we do find out that Abed has been accidentally charting the menstrual cycles of all the women in the study group. We also find out that Shirley has a pregnancy test in her purse. Through his handy dandy period chart Abed confirms she must have conceived around Halloween if she actually is pregnant. Keep in mind that that was when she slept with Chang during the zombie attack. I cant believe I just typed that sentence. The group eventually strips down and even removes Pierce’s cast to find many gross things, none of which are Annie’s pen. They all decide that its far more likely that a ghost took the pen than any of them actually taking it and lying about it. They all leave the study room together only to reveal that it was not a ghost at all, but Annie’s Boobs! For those that don’t recall, that was Troy’s pet monkey from an earlier episode. The monkey escaped and has been living in the vent of the study room

QUICK HITS
“ Sometimes I think I lost something really important to me and it turns out I already ate it.”

“Do they file thoughts in our butts? I knew I should have read that book”

“Tell Your disappointment to suck it, I’m doing a bottle episode.”

“More importantly, are they seriously marketing pregnant tests to black women?”

“Pierce have you been using Slim Jims to scratch yourself?”

A truly great episode. I give it a 10/10
